Don’t Just Watch—Jump In!

The other day, I was watching my grandsons play in the pool. They were laughing, splashing, and having the time of their lives. And there I was—just watching.

Then it hit me: Why not join them?
So I did. Fully clothed, I jumped in and played right alongside them.

It made me think…
Somewhere along the way—when we outgrow our childhood—we start sitting on the sidelines. We watch others have fun, stay active, take chances, and try new things. But we hold back. Maybe we feel too self-conscious. Maybe life has worn us down a bit. Maybe we just forget what it’s like to dive in without hesitation.

We complain about the weather or the news or the mess of the world. We shake our heads at the challenges around us—at poverty, division, even homelessness. But what are we doing about it?

There’s a song I love by Lee Ann Womack called “I Hope You Dance.” It reminds me that life is still full of wonder, even when it knocks us down. We just have to get back up. Try again. Take the risk. Make the friend. Be the one who dares to care.

No matter your age, I hope you always stay open to the wonder around you.
Jump in.
Take a chance.
You never know what ripple you’ll make in someone’s life—or in your own.
