Have you heard of Karl Bushby or Tom Turcich?
Karl began walking around the world in 1998. That’s right—walking. Over 35,000 miles so far, and he’s still going. No planes, trains, or automobiles—just his feet and an unshakable commitment to finish what he started.
Then there’s Tom Turcich. I recently had the privilege of hearing him speak about his own journey around the world. His story began at age 16 when his friend Anne Marie Lynch, just 17, died in a jet ski accident. That moment changed him. He realized that life is fragile—and short. He wanted to live an extraordinary life. When he heard about Karl’s mission, he thought, That’s it. That’s what I want to do. Ten years later, in 2015, Tom set out on foot. Seven years, six continents, and 38 countries later, he completed a 25,000-mile walk around the world.
Both stories stir something in me. They remind me that my life—our lives—are finite. We don’t know how long we have. I want to do something extraordinary with mine.
I may not be circling the globe on foot, but helping build a village for our chronically homeless neighbors in Denton County feels just as bold. It’s a journey of compassion. Of purpose. Of faith. And it’s going to change lives.
How about you?
What will you do with your one life?
Will you watch from the sidelines—or walk toward something that matters?
We’d love for you to join us.
Serve. Give. Pray. Share.
