This morning, I came across a Facebook post about the increase in homelessness and visible drug use in Denton. While the original post was unfortunately lacking in empathy, what struck me most were the comments that followed. Many people took the time to express real care and concern for the unhoused members of our community.
It was heartening to see how many understood that homelessness often begins with a setback—job loss, illness, trauma, or other life-altering events that can happen to anyone. They recognized that those living on the streets are people first, deserving of dignity, support, and hope.
But caring from a distance isn’t enough. Real change starts when we move beyond assumptions and start building relationships. If we don’t know someone, we can’t know what they’ve been through—or what kind of help they truly need.
It’s easy to talk about what “should” happen—get a job, stop using drugs, make better choices. But the path out of homelessness is rarely that simple. It often requires steady support, stable housing, and access to services—along with a community that sees and values them as individuals.
At Community Forever Village, we believe in offering more than just shelter. We offer a place of belonging—a community built on compassion, safety, and the belief that every person is worthy of a second chance. By walking alongside our neighbors, we aim to foster the kind of connection and care that leads to lasting change.
If you’ve ever wondered how to help, this is a good place to start. Be curious. Be kind. And when you’re ready, come walk with us.
