Recently, I had to make a really hard decision—one that every pet owner dreads. After sixteen sweet, love-filled years, we said goodbye to our dog, Bandit. We got him as a puppy, and from the start, he was gentle and loyal. Bandit loved to play “fetch and hide,” snuggle close, and remind us what unconditional love looks like. Letting him go was heartbreaking, but we knew it was time.
This morning, as I walked our other dog, Cash, I found myself reflecting on Bandit and all the good memories we shared. And then my thoughts shifted to something else—gratitude.
In the quiet of the morning, I noticed the simple blessings around me:
- We had sixteen wonderful years with Bandit.
- We recently celebrated my mother-in-law’s 90th birthday.
- Both of my parents are still with us.
- The sunrise was breathtaking.
- The breeze was light, and the air felt clean.
- I have great friends and belong to amazing organizations doing meaningful work.
- All my kids were home for Mother’s Day.
- My lawn is green and thriving thanks to the rain.
- I took my first dip in the pool this summer.
- We had a cozy at-home movie night with my grandsons.
- And every day, I get to do work that matters with Community Forever Village.
These are simple joys—precious moments that fill a life with meaning. But as I thought about all I have to be thankful for, a sobering truth settled in: not everyone gets to enjoy these things.
Many of our chronically homeless neighbors have never known peace or stability. They don’t have the security of a home, the comfort of a pet, or the quiet beauty of a morning walk. But it doesn’t have to stay that way.
At Community Forever Village, we believe everyone deserves a place to call home—a community that offers dignity, belonging, and the chance to experience the simple joys of life.
Will you join us?
Together, we can create a place where our most vulnerable neighbors are no longer forgotten. Your support—whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word—can help us turn that dream into reality.
