This week, I attended a memorial service for one of my neighbors who passed away in his home, with his son by his side. As neighbors gathered to share memories, many spoke about his kindness, recounting stories of how they first met him—on the streets. What I learned that day was something that struck me deeply: he was a veteran who had served in Desert Storm.
How is it that someone who served our country, risking everything for our freedoms, is left to live on the streets for years? This is a harsh reality for far too many veterans.
Veterans are especially vulnerable to challenges like depression and PTSD. They often come home from service carrying invisible wounds. They need support, patience, and love, but sometimes even their families struggle to handle the weight of what they are going through. And all too often, society gives up on them, leaving them isolated and without the care they need.
At Community Forever Village, we don’t accept this reality for our veterans. We believe they deserve better. They deserve a home where they can heal, find community, and live out their days surrounded by love, dignity, and respect. These brave men and women gave so much for us, and we are committed to giving back to them in their time of need.
But we can’t do it alone. It’s time for all of us to take action. Whether it’s through donating, volunteering, or simply spreading awareness, we can make a difference. Together, we can ensure that no veteran is left to face life’s struggles on the streets. Let’s bring them home, where they belong—where they can be embraced by their community and finish out their lives with the honor and respect they so richly deserve.
Will you join us in making that a reality? Every effort counts. Our veterans gave their all for us; it’s time we do the same for them.
