A Night Of Music and Unity: Loving Our Neighbors through Service

I recently had the privilege of attending an open-mic night, and what I experienced left me deeply moved. The talent displayed by our formerly homeless neighbors was nothing short of amazing. We were treated to a variety of musical styles—Gospel, Rock-n-Roll, Soul, and even electric guitar. Each performance was a reminder of the creativity and spirit that lies within all of us, regardless of our backgrounds.

As we sat together, side-by-side, people of different skin colors, religions, genders, and temperaments, we were united by something greater. Through the music, we became one with each other and with Jesus Christ. It was a powerful moment, showing that despite our differences, we share common ground. The music rolled over us, and in that shared space, we were reminded of the love and care that connects us all.

It’s moments like this that bring home the truth: we are not as different from one another as we might think. With great love and compassion, we can recognize that but for the grace of God, any one of us could be in a different place. Homelessness, addiction, alcoholism, mental illness—these struggles do not define a person. Instead, we are called to respond with love. As the Bible teaches us in Mark 12:31, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Here at Community Forever Village, we take this calling to heart. We serve the chronically homeless by providing permanent housing and supportive services, helping them reclaim their dignity and live with purpose. Our mission is to love our neighbors unconditionally and empower them to discover a life of belonging.

We invite you to join us in this mission. Together, we can live out the Gospel of Mark, love our neighbors, and serve our community with open hearts.
